Get Social with CHOCOLATE!

December 23, 2011 Leave a comment

We love chocolate. We love facebook. So why not combine them?

Kraft foods did just that with their chocolate, Lacta, a popular Greek milk chocolate candy bar. The candy bar, which you can find at http://www.greekshops.com/new_products/Lacta_Milk_Chocolate_85gr.html?pdi=5201057011413, was often used to write romantic messages upon by consumers, switched to a plastic wrapper which disgruntled buyers, and is now employing the old romantic strategies to gain back customer loyalty.

Combining Lacta and technology, an app was developed to enable the chocolate lovers to write personal messages on their bars of Lacta.

The message giver must first purchase the candy bar, take a picture of it with their smartphone, and with the app can write a personalized message surrounded with floating hearts.

The message receiver is alerted that they have a message to download and the rest is history.

To me, this is similar to how M&Ms allow the consumer to write personal messages, however, it is entirely new as it incorporates facebook into the mix.

What do you think about this campaign? Genius? Overrated? Do you think this would succeed in the U.S?

Vampires Wear Designers?! Well, if you’re Ashley Greene……..

DKNY Vamp!

It’s official!  DKNY has signed Ashley Greene to a one year contract to endorse Donna Karan New York as of the start of 2012. This comes as no surprise considering the amount of press surrounding her and the Twilight series the past couple of years and especially with the premiere of Breaking Dawn Part 1. This is a smart move for the designer label who is no doubt foreseeing the amount of press sure to surround Ashley Greene in the latter part of 2012 due to the premiere of the second part of Breaking Dawn.

According to Donna Karan’s executive vice president of global marketing and communications, “Ashley embodies everything DKNY—her energy, her spirit, her eclectic personal style. She is on the forefront of what it means to connect with a global fan base through social media, a focus that is aligned with our digital and new media initiatives”.

I look forward to seeing how the campaign rounds out in 2012!

New Video Game Campaigns are great but…………

December 22, 2011 2 comments

I must admit, I appreciate the old campaigns just as much. These are two of my favorites; Nintendo (whose ad seems silly but definitely resonated with consumers at the time) and Shift happens. For an even more impressive list of old video game ads which include a nintendo advertisement for New Zealand back in the day, go to http://www.cracked.com/article_16944_6-baffling-old-school-video-game-commercials.html for entertainment that will make you appreciate the advancements that have been made in video technology over the years.

Because Losing Sucks

What are your favorite old school campaigns?!

2012 Marketing Predictions

In regards to marketing, this time of the year is filled with catchy campaigns and clever jingles splashed across the television, the internet, and magazines in an effort to sell a product or service. However, after the holidays businesses must return to a life where consumer spending is not so easily acquired with the start of a new year, and after Christmas splurges. And with that, as much as the holiday campaigns are catchy and interesting, now is also the time when marketers are making their 2012 predictions for new or popular trends to hit the marketing scene.

This blog, New Marketing Mania, is a marketing blog aimed at informing our readers of the latest trends in marketing and how they are being used. Our goals include providing our readers with news on trendy campaigns, creative strategies, and how effective these marketing efforts become. Sure, the billboard down the street for Target is effective but at New Marketing Mania we want to perk up your ears with interesting information on unusual or creative strategies businesses are using to gain your customer loyalty.

The predictions for 2012 range from thoughts about traditional marketing to social media marketing to mobile marketing and because this blog is focused on marketing trends, we have narrowed the hefty range of predictions down to two, more recently emerged, marketing strategies that encompass many other new year marketing predictions; social media and mobile media marketing.

The general consensus about social media seems to be that it will….disappear.

Disappear? Yes according to business2community.com, social media will no longer be seen as a disposable marketing strategy, eventually obsolete in the future. According to marketingprofs.com, digital information is doubling every two years; social media marketing is being taken seriously and has transformed the traditional marketing strategy.

More companies are projected to utilize Facebook, Twitter, the new Google+ as well as more social platforms will be emerging to utilize the revolutionized promotional plans. The buzzword for 2012 will be “sharing” as more and more companies encourage users and shoppers to spread the company’s message from coast to coast with little effort or cost.

Social media marketing also involves incorporating a more effective use of ‘Big Data’. With more CRM (Customer Relationship Management) tools hitting the internet, retailers and service providers are examining how to increase customer service to set them apart from the competition. In a world where there are at least fifty types of any product you want, customer service is the best way to differentiate a business.

Be prepared everyone, social media marketing is here to stay.

Joining the internet craze for 2012 is mobile marketing.

Companies, now creating new positions specifically to handle mobile marketing campaigns, are taking full reign of their mobile marketing opportunities. Consumers will be spending increased time with their mobile companions-YouTube mobile already services 100 million views a day while Facebook caters to 350 million mobile users according to makemoneywidgets.com- as we start to use phones and other devices for payment, research, and entertainment.  Marketing strategies for companies involve mobile ads, mobile apps, and the use of an old concept, ‘gamification’- promotion through games and challenges specific to your company or campaign, think McDonald’s monopoly-  are being applied in a new way.

These two strategies are a small, but increasingly important, fraction of the marketing world. Check back weekly for new posts on the latest marketing and to see how social media and mobile marketing takes a hold of 2012.
